Cradle to Cradle

Dealer Distance

The distance from the user's address in the system to the nearest dealer in the system listed as carrying the product in question.

Distributor

the company that sells the product listed. Also known as retailer or dealer.

Fire Proofing Method

The process, chemical or materials used to make a product fire resistant or fire proof.

Form

The primary manner in which a product is packaged and offered for sale.

Found Price

This is the combined average price paid in US Dollars as reported by G2G users around the nation for a specific unit measure of a specific product. It is meant to give users a general idea of what to expect to pay, not a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price.

Identifying Material

The material associated with the product, such as fiberglass insulation or pine studs. It is not necessarily the primary constituent by mass or volume.

Insulation

Limits thermal transfer

LEM Table

Maintenance Cost

The average cost in US Dollars per year as reported by G2G users that is required to generally maintain proper working order and efficiency of a product.

Product Certifications

These are third party performance certifications, awards or recognitions that the individual product has achieved. As an example, being a member of USGBC is not a product certification. But rather, if the product has received GreenGuard certification for indoor air quality performance, you would check the health and safety certification logo and list GreenGuard in the window provided. Links to organizations responsible for the various certifications are provided in this glossary.

Protective Gear Required

According to manufacturer’s specifications, the relative level of protective gear required for handling a product. In some cases, products may not present exposure risks to skin, eyes, lungs or ears and therefore do not contain any substances that require protective gear. However, most products require basic protection (i.e. gloves and goggles) and products requiring advanced levels of protective gear (i.e. respirator, jumpsuit, gloves, and goggles) indicate, but do not always mean, a certain level of hazardous material is present.

Recycled Content

A recycled-content product is an item that contains waste material diverted from conventional disposal such as landfills. Recycled-content products may contain some pre-consumer waste, some post-consumer (PC) waste or both. Pre-consumer material is defined as material diverted from the waste stream during the manufacturing process. excluded is reutilization of materials such as rework, regrind or scrap generated ina process capable of being reclaimed within the same process that generated it. Post-consumer material is defined as waste material egnerated by housholds or by commercial, industrial and institutional facilities in their roles as end-users of the product, which can no longer be used for its intended purpose. Post-consumer materials can include recyclables collected in commercial and residential recycling programs, such as paper, cardboard, plastics and metals. The higher the amount of post-consumer recycled content in a product, the greater amount of waste that is diverted from disposal. As a result, Green2Green weights products with post-consumer content higher that those with pre-consumer recycled content. Reporting such content should be done consistent with ISO 14021 - Environmental Labels and Declarations- Self-declared environmental claims (Type II environmental labeling).

Required Professional

The manufacturer or supplier requires all installation and handling be performed by a licensed professional.

Resists Mold

manufacturer claims that when the product is used to manufacturer specification, it will either naturally deter mold or contains additives that will resist mold and mildew growth.

Resists Pests

manufacturer claims that when the product is use to manufacturer specification, it will either naturally deter pests or contains additives that will resist the habitation of pests, varmints, critters, creepy crawlies, bugs, and three-year-olds.

R-value

a typical measurement of thermal resistance, R-value indicates the effectiveness of a building material to resist the flow of heat. The ability of the material to resist temperature changes results in an R-value for that material. For example, a typical new home's walls are usually insulated with 6" of batt insulation with an R value of R-19, and a ceiling insulation of R-28. It is important to remember, however, that while a universally accepted unit of measure, R-value is a starting point for comparison and not a ranking.

Scientific Certification Services

Source Distance

The distance “as the crow flies” from the user supplied zip code region to the nearest source location as identified by the product manufacturer. Source is identified as generally where final product assembly takes place, or the location immediately preceding final packaging. It should not be automatically assumed as compliant with LEED certification requirements associated with source distancing, and should always be verified independently for this and other certification processes.

Warranty

statements as specified by the manufacturer that the material and workmanship of a product are without defect or will meet a specified level of performance over a specified period of time.
